2008 Pacrim Invitational

The Tourism and Hospitality Management Program at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) in Halifax has received a financial boost in excess of $54,000 to support scholarship and leadership programs for students. For the seventh consecutive year Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. (PHSI), one of Canada’s largest hotel management companies, contributed all proceeds from the Pacrim Invitational Golf Tournament to “building tourism and hospitality leaders,” said Glenn Squires, CEO of PHSI.

Fund-Raising for MSVU Tourism Program Tops $50,000

“The health of the hospitality industry is crucial to the economic well-being of towns and cities throughout Atlantic Canada and all across this country” Mr. Squires said. “The industry’s future depends upon strong leadership. We see our support of the MSVU tourism program as a contribution to the future of the hospitality industry,” he added.

Tourism and travel are vitally important to the world today, said Kathryn Laurin, President and Vice-Chancellor at MSVU. “Our tourism students and program are at the heart of the tourism industry and we are tremendously grateful to Pacrim and their partners for their generous support and recognition.”

Over the last seven years, the Pacrim Invitational Golf Tournament has contributed more than $265,000 to creating and maintaining endowed awards, leadership scholarships and an enhancement fund for tourism and hospitality students at MSVU. In 2008 Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. contributed $40,000, Holloway Lodging REIT presented a cheque for $10,000 and Unity Telecom added $1,000.

The Pacrim contribution to MSVU will be ongoing this year as we have added a new online auction to our fundraising efforts. We invite you to go to http://www.pacriminvitational.com/auction/ and bid on our live auction items. Enjoy wonderful accommodations, whether a romantic getaway for two or take the whole family. 100% of all proceeds benefit The Pacrim Scholarship Fund at Mount Saint Vincent University's Tourism and Hospitality Management program.

One hundred and forty four golfers from all across Canada and the United Stated—partners, suppliers and investors with PHSI—participated in the tournament at Oakfield Golf & Country Club, outside Halifax.

“At Pacrim Hospitality, we take great pride in supporting the MSVU Tourism program,” Mr. Squires said. “It is an important way in which we help build the future of the industry in Canada and it’s an important community effort on behalf of our outstanding staff that annually pulls the event together.”
