2013 Tournament Recap
The 2013 tournament opened on Wednesday, July 24, with a reception at The Lord Nelson Hotel in downtown Halifax.
Glenn Squires, President & CEO of Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc., welcomed participants and thanked the sponsors and donors for supporting the event.
Glenn Squires spoke about the tournament's 12-year history and its purpose: bringing management employees together with investors, prospective investors, partners and major suppliers, while giving back to the community through live and silent auctions.
Supporting Give Kids the World Village
$17,000 raised in 2013 for Give Kids the World Village.
Net proceeds from the 2013 live and silent auctions were designated for Give Kids the World Village, a nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides cost-free vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
At the reception, Squires noted that more than 500 families visited the Village through Make-A-Wish Canada in 2012, and that the organization welcomed its 120,000th family that year. He also described his long-standing involvement with Give Kids the World through IHG.
In previous years, auction proceeds had supported the Pacrim Endowment Scholarship Fund for Mount Saint Vincent University's Tourism Department. In 2013, Pacrim planned a separate dinner and live auction in support of the university, involving students, faculty and members of Nova Scotia's tourism community.
